Akpabio Slams Natasha’s Assassination Claim as ‘False and Malicious’ in Fiery Denial

Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has vehemently denied the shocking claims made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused him of plotting her assassination with the help of former Governor Yahaya Bello. Akpabio described the allegation as “false and malicious,” calling it a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.

The explosive claim was made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a speech to her supporters in Kogi on Wednesday, where she alleged that Akpabio had orchestrated an assassination plot against her in Kogi State, rather than in Abuja. This accusation quickly gained traction but was swiftly debunked by both Akpabio and the Kogi State government.

In a statement issued by Akpabio’s media aide, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President condemned the allegation as “a complete fabrication” and “irresponsible,” warning that such dangerous claims could provoke public unrest. Akpabio also pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously made unsubstantiated sexual harassment accusations against him, which she later abandoned without explanation.

“This is a smear campaign designed to make me appear as a bad leader,” Akpabio stated, adding that Akpoti-Uduaghan has a history of making unverified and sensational accusations, including previous assassination claims against Yahaya Bello and other prominent figures in 2019 and 2023.

Akpabio also took aim at former lawmaker Elisha Abbo, who recently blamed the Senate President for his removal from the National Assembly. Abbo, who was ousted by a Court of Appeal ruling in October 2023, had appeared on a live television show and accused Akpabio of running the Senate like a dictator. Akpabio dismissed these allegations as part of a coordinated smear campaign, suggesting that both Abbo and Akpoti-Uduaghan were united in their efforts to undermine his credibility.

“These claims are politically motivated,” Akpabio said, “and are aimed at distracting from their own personal and political failures.” He demanded formal apologies and retractions from both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Abbo, warning that legal action would follow if they failed to comply.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Akpabio remains resolute, with his legal team preparing to serve formal letters of demand for public apologies, retractions, and compensation for reputational damage. The Senate President’s position is clear: he will not allow these “false and defamatory” attacks to go unchallenged.
