Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has come forward with a shocking statement, declaring that he is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta. The singer’s confession came on the heels of a police manhunt after he was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command.
On Tuesday, Portable, who is widely known for his hit song “Zazu Zeh,” made a public plea to Nigerians and the Ogun State government. His appeal followed an altercation with officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, which escalated into a violent confrontation.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State, where three town planners—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were conducting an enforcement exercise. The officials came across an elderly man, who was later identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar in the area. After identifying themselves and requesting the approved building plan, the father explained that his son was not around.
However, in an unexpected twist, Portable arrived at the scene shortly after, armed with a firearm and accompanied by a group of nine thugs. The singer allegedly led a violent attack on the unarmed officials, leaving them injured. Despite their injuries, the officials managed to escape and report the incident to the Ota Area Command, which escalated the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). While nine of Portable’s accomplices were arrested, the singer managed to flee the scene and has been on the run ever since.
In his response to the police declaration, Portable took to his Instagram account on Tuesday, claiming that he had been set up. He further explained that he was wearing a vest featuring the face of Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi, at the time of the altercation. He also made a startling revelation about his mental health, asserting that he is receiving treatment for his condition at the Aro Psychiatric Hospital.
“I fear the government. I am a federal government liability. I am a madman, and I take medication regularly. You can confirm this from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients,” Portable said. “I am from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief; I help people around me without even considering their background.”
As the situation continues to unfold, Portable’s fate remains uncertain as authorities continue their search for him.
