Chaos at FUDMA: Katsina Varsity Shuts Down After Student’s Death Sparks Protest

The Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has been temporarily shut down following a violent student protest triggered by the alleged killing of a student by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).

The university’s management announced a one-week mid-semester break starting from February 24, urging students to vacate the campus by 6:00 p.m. the same day.

Tensions erupted on Sunday after reports surfaced that a student had been shot by JTF operatives, who accused him of being an informant. The unrest spilled into Monday as students continued to protest against what they described as an unjust killing.

In a statement issued on Monday, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, confirmed the decision to close the school, emphasizing the need to restore order.

“The management wishes the students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break,” he stated.

The incident has raised concerns over security measures on campus and the role of security forces in student affairs.
