In a bold move against crime, the Edo State Government has demolished houses linked to kidnapping syndicates in Illeh, Esan West, and Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Areas.

The Special Adviser on Security, Akhere Paul, emphasized that the demolition aligns with a recently passed anti-kidnapping law, ensuring that any property used as a criminal hideout will be pulled down. He urged landlords to thoroughly profile tenants before renting out properties to prevent them from being used for illegal activities.

“This house was a den for kidnappers. Police raids uncovered weapons and rescued victims here. Under the new law signed by Governor Monday Okpebholo, such properties will not be spared. Landlords must verify tenants’ identities and seek police profiling before leasing out their homes,” Akhere stated.

The Commander of the Special Task Force, SP Michael Anetor, reinforced the message, stressing that the demolitions serve as a strong warning to criminals and a wake-up call for communities to report suspicious activities.

In a shocking confession, members of the dismantled seven-man gang admitted that their most recent victim was targeted due to his luxury car. He and a female companion were kidnapped and later released after a ₦10 million ransom was paid.

The Edo State Government has made it clear—there will be no safe haven for kidnappers. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and join efforts to make Edo safer for all.
