Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has shut down swirling rumors about his alleged plan to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), calling them baseless and the handiwork of political opponents.
In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and accused unnamed Abuja-based politicians of spreading falsehoods to create division between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I’m APC, and I’m Here to Stay”
I remain the leader of APC in Benue, and I won’t leave for anyone.
These Abuja politicians are just playing their usual games, trying to cause confusion.
Their attempts to paint a false narrative about me defecting are completely baseless.
Alia dismissed claims that he was aligning with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and others to join the SDP, describing them as cheap propaganda backed by doctored photos and fake news.
Political Plot or Desperation?
The governor suggested that those behind the rumors are simply bitter about his success.
Before I took office, APC in Benue was struggling. Now, it’s stronger than ever.
My leadership has not only revived the party but has forced opposition parties into retreat.
I am focused on working with the federal government to bring progress and development to Benue.
Stay Focused, Don’t Fall for Fake News
Alia urged Benue residents to ignore the false reports and assured them that his administration remains committed to development, transparency, and good governance.
“I am here to serve the people of Benue, and no amount of political games will derail that mission!”
