A journey from Makurdi to Otukpo turned into a nightmare when gunmen ambushed a Benue Links bus, killing two people and abducting 12 passengers.
The attack occurred near Otukpo Burnt Bricks on Thursday, according to a statement by the company’s Information Officer, Johnson Ehi. The bus, an 18-seater with registration number PP512, was owned by the Benue State Government.
Tragically, the driver, Samuel Agege, and a front-seat passenger lost their lives in the brutal assault. While the attackers attempted to take all remaining passengers, three managed to escape, and one had disembarked earlier in Taraku before the attack.
Benue Links strongly condemned the incident, extending condolences to the bereaved families and pledging full cooperation with security agencies working to rescue the kidnapped passengers.
“The swift response of law enforcement is commendable, and we trust in their ongoing efforts to bring the victims home safely,” the company stated.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the attack, with spokesperson SP Sewuese Anene stating that investigations were ongoing and more details would be provided soon.
