The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has confirmed that it will not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election, citing its decision to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

The party said its absence from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presidential nomination portal was a deliberate political decision and not the result of any administrative error or failure to meet electoral requirements.

APGA National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, disclosed the party’s position while speaking on growing public interest over the omission of an APGA presidential candidate from the list of nominees submitted to INEC.

According to Opara, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had, following consultations, resolved to endorse President Tinubu’s re-election campaign in what it described as being in the country’s best interest.

“We have not uploaded a presidential candidate because the National Executive Committee of the party has already taken a decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” Opara said.

He, however, stressed that APGA remained fully engaged in the electoral process and had successfully submitted the names of its candidates for the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly elections within the timeframe stipulated by INEC.

Opara stated that all required documentation for the party’s candidates seeking seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and state legislatures had been completed and submitted accordingly.

He further clarified that APGA’s support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the presidential level should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from the 2027 general election. According to him, the party intends to strengthen its presence in legislative institutions across the country.

The spokesman said APGA remained committed to expanding its representation in the Senate, House of Representatives and state assemblies, describing legislative participation as essential to advancing the party’s programmes and representing the interests of its supporters.

Opara also urged party members and supporters to intensify mobilisation efforts for APGA candidates contesting legislative seats while backing President Tinubu’s re-election bid in line with the NEC’s resolution.

The clarification follows public questions over why APGA did not submit a presidential candidate despite participating in other categories of the election. The party maintained that the decision reflected its strategic political position ahead of the 2027 polls rather than any issue with the nomination process.
