Gunmen Abduct Students, School Principal During NECO Examination in Kogi

Armed men have abducted several students, a school principal and a National Examinations Council (NECO) official during an attack on a secondary school in Kogi State while examinations were in progress.

The incident occurred at Government Secondary School, Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday evening as students were sitting for their NECO examinations.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the school premises at about 5:25 p.m., causing panic among students and members of staff before taking away four students, the school’s principal and a NECO ad hoc official to an unknown destination.

Sources cited in the report said the assailants fled the area with the victims shortly after the attack, prompting an immediate response from security agencies.

Security operatives subsequently launched a search and rescue operation, combing surrounding communities and gathering intelligence aimed at locating the kidnappers and securing the release of those abducted.

A security source confirmed that one of the abducted students had been rescued, while efforts were continuing to free the remaining victims.

Authorities have continued investigations into the incident as security agencies intensify operations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. The incident adds to concerns over the safety of schools and examination centres in parts of the country.
