A Victoria Travels passenger bus operating from Abuja to Gboko was involved in a road traffic collision with a truck at Akwanga, Nasarawa State, on Monday, September 21, 2026, leaving the company’s transport officer dead and four passengers hospitalised.
According to a statement issued by the management of Victoria Travels, Bus24 was operating the company’s 8:30 a.m. service from Abuja Area 1 to Gboko when the collision occurred at about 11:21 a.m. at Akwanga. Six passengers were reportedly on board at the time of the incident.
The company said two passengers were able to walk away from the crash, while four others were taken to hospital. Of the four hospitalised passengers, two were discharged the same day, while the remaining two were transferred to Abuja for further medical attention.
Victoria Travels also confirmed the death of its Transport Officer, identified as Mr Jacob Gbanger, popularly known as Jacob G, who was commanding the bus at the time of the incident.
The company described the death of its staff member as a painful loss and extended condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.
According to the statement, Victoria Travels had operated since 2021 without a reported injury involving a passenger or transport officer travelling on one of its buses. The company said it had consistently reviewed its operational procedures and safety controls as part of efforts to protect passengers and staff.
The circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been conclusively established.
Victoria Travels said it was awaiting the outcome of investigations by the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The company noted that preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses suggested that the crash occurred at a road junction shortly before the Akwanga bypass.
The company further stated that, according to those preliminary accounts, a truck reportedly crossed from the Abuja-facing lane into the Akwanga-facing lane of the Keffi–Akwanga road, where it collided with the Victoria Travels bus.
Victoria Travels stressed that it would allow the relevant authorities to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the crash.
The company said the incident had prompted it to undertake a comprehensive review of its safety systems, adding that it would introduce any additional measures considered necessary to reduce the possibility of a similar occurrence.
Management also said it had informed the family of the deceased transport officer before making a public announcement about his death, citing respect for Jacob Gbanger and his family.
The company appealed for prayers and support for the injured passengers, the family of the deceased staff member and all those affected by the incident.
“May God grant TO Jacob G eternal rest, heal the injured, comfort the bereaved, and give us all the strength and wisdom to move forward,” the company said in its statement.
