Dallas Cowboys Receive Encouraging Injury Update on Agent 0 as 2025 Draft Nears
The 2024 NFL season was one to forget for the Dallas Cowboys. Plagued by injuries to key players like quarterback Dak Prescott and defensive standout Micah Parsons, the team managed only seven wins—far below expectations for a franchise with championship ambitions.
However, just weeks ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cowboys finally have something to celebrate.
DeMarvion Overshown Set to Make History—and a Comeback
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who had a standout rookie season before suffering a significant knee injury, received two major updates on Wednesday that have Cowboys fans buzzing.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Overshown will become the first player in franchise history to wear the No. 0 jersey, moving on from his previous No. 13. Nicknamed “Agent 0,” Overshown is embracing the identity both on and off the field.
Even more promising, Schultz reported that Overshown is progressing well in his rehab. There’s growing optimism that the playmaking linebacker could return by midseason in 2025, giving a huge boost to a defense looking to reclaim its edge.
Overshown’s rookie year was nothing short of electric. In just 13 games, he racked up 90 tackles, five sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, eight tackles for loss, and even scored a defensive touchdown. His return could be a game-changer.
Marist Liufau to Step Up in Overshown’s Absence
With Overshown still on the mend, the Cowboys are expected to rely on Marist Liufau early in the 2025 season. Once fully healthy, Overshown is expected to rejoin a linebacker unit that includes Kenneth Murray Jr. and Jack Sanborn, potentially forming one of the most dynamic trios in the NFC.
Emmitt Smith Calls Cowboys’ Title Drought a ‘Crying Shame’
Meanwhile, Cowboys legend and NFL all-time rushing leader Emmitt Smith weighed in on the team’s ongoing championship drought. The three-time Super Bowl champion didn’t mince words when speaking with The Dallas Morning News.
“That part bugs me,” Smith said. “I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC Championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade. For us not to be there over the last 30 years is a crying shame.”
Despite his frustration, Smith remains hopeful for the future. He believes the Cowboys’ rich history still carries weight among young players and serves as motivation for newcomers to leave their mark.
“When you draft somebody, they already need to know what’s expected. You have to embrace the history and figure out how to contribute to the legacy.”
Eyes on the 2025 Season
With a new draft class incoming and stars like Overshown on the path to recovery, the Cowboys have a chance to reset and refocus. As the team looks to reestablish itself among the NFL’s elite, fans and legends alike are hoping 2025 brings a long-overdue turnaround in Big D.
