Bethesda Officially Releases The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered with Stunning Unreal Engine 5 Upgrade
After weeks of speculation and leaks, Bethesda has officially released a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Developed by Virtuos—the studio behind Dark Souls: Remastered—the beloved 2006 RPG returns with a visually enhanced experience powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Available now for $49.99, Oblivion Remastered can be played on PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam), and Xbox Series X. Additionally, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can access the title on both PC and Xbox platforms.
This remaster breathes new life into the game’s iconic world, featuring high-resolution textures, upgraded lighting, and an overhauled visual presentation. While it’s the first Bethesda title to use an external engine, it still retains elements of the original proprietary engine to preserve the classic feel.
Major gameplay improvements include modernized UI, revamped leveling systems, enhanced combat animations, and realistic visual and sound effects. A long-requested sprint button has also been introduced, adding more fluidity to movement.
Tom Mustaine, Bethesda’s external projects and studio director, emphasized during the announcement stream: “We’ve modernized a lot, but it’s still the same incredible adventure and the same carefully crafted world.”
While fans are eager to explore the updated Cyrodiil, questions remain about some of the iconic glitches and modding capabilities. The community wonders if legendary bugs—like building stairways with paintbrushes—still exist and whether existing mods will be compatible. Bethesda has yet to confirm full mod support, but considering the strength of its modding community, answers are likely coming soon.
With its blend of nostalgia and modern polish, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered marks a new chapter for fans old and new.
