Suspected terrorists who abducted a bride and several wedding guests in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, have contacted the affected families two days after the attack—but made no ransom demand. Instead, the abductors insisted on speaking directly with the traditional ruler of the community.
The father of the bride, Malam Umaru Chacho, told journalists that the kidnappers called the family and asked to be linked to the district head. “When they called, they said we should connect them with the traditional ruler of the town. We refused and asked them to speak to us instead, but they declined, insisting they wanted to speak with our traditional ruler,” he said.
According to Chacho, a total of 13 people were taken during the incident, including 11 females and two males. He added that several others sustained injuries while trying to escape. “A relative of the bride who resisted the terrorists was shot and sustained a severe gunshot injury that almost took his life,” he said.
He further lamented the deteriorating security situation in the community, noting that more than 30 people have been killed in Chacho village over the past five years as a result of repeated bandit attacks. Residents are calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further tragedies.
