The Ogun State House of Assembly has officially passed the 2026 appropriation bill, pegged at a historic ₦1.668 trillion. The passage of the bill occurred during Monday’s plenary session at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. This approval comes just weeks after Governor Dapo Abiodun presented the proposal.
Lawmakers dubbed the fiscal document the “Budget of Sustainable Legacy.” During the session, the House made minor adjustments to the original proposal. They increased the projected Internally Generated Revenue by ₦2.193 billion while reducing capital receipts by the same margin to maintain the total budget size.
This new financial plan represents a massive 63 percent increase over the 2025 budget of ₦1.054 trillion. The breakdown shows a strong focus on development, with ₦1.044 trillion earmarked for capital projects. This accounts for 63 percent of the total expenditure, while recurrent expenditure stands at ₦624.76 billion.
A look at the sectoral allocation reveals that infrastructure took the lion’s share with ₦526.15 billion. This fund is targeted at road construction, the Gateway International Airport expansion, and other connectivity initiatives. Education followed with ₦275.40 billion, aimed at school rehabilitation and teacher training.
The health sector received a significant boost with an allocation of ₦210.59 billion. This is expected to support hospital upgrades and the procurement of modern medical equipment. Housing and Community Development also got ₦199.96 billion to drive affordable housing delivery and urban renewal projects.
Governor Abiodun had previously emphasized the need for fiscal prudence in executing the budget. He projected that a significant portion of the funding would come from the state’s IGR and federal allocations. The document now awaits the governor’s assent to become law.
