The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and five alleged thugs during an operation at Jaoji Quarters in the Kano metropolis.
The arrest was confirmed on Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, who described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes in the state.
Haruna said police officers attached to the Jaoji Police Division carried out the operation, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect, Hafizu Ali, alongside five other suspected thugs. He stated that various illicit drugs and dangerous weapons were recovered during the raid.
According to him, the operation was conducted on January 10 under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s nationwide directive on strategic crime prevention aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving public safety.
Haruna disclosed that the suspected drug dealer was found in possession of 2,070 suspected Pregabalin capsules and 23 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa. He added that items recovered from the suspected thugs included four knives, two scissors, and an axe.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication to duty. He also appreciated residents of the state for their continued support and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
Haruna said all the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
