The Federal Government has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund overseas scholarship programme.

The announcement was made on Monday through a social media update by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media. The government said the programme is designed to support Nigerian postgraduate students seeking advanced training abroad.

Under the scheme, successful applicants will study in selected institutions in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

According to information released by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, the scholarship is open to candidates pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in fields related to the oil and gas industry. The package covers tuition fees, return air tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and research-related costs where applicable.

The fund stated that the overseas programme aims to strengthen Nigeria’s technical capacity by exposing scholars to advanced training, modern research facilities, and global best practices in the energy sector.

Applicants for the master’s category are required to hold a minimum of a Second Class Lower degree or higher, have completed the National Youth Service Corps programme, possess basic computer skills, and present five O-Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

Doctoral applicants are also expected to submit a detailed research proposal of no more than five pages. The proposal must clearly outline the research objectives, methodology, and data collection plan.

For candidates applying to study in the United Kingdom at doctoral level, the PTDF explained that the programme will operate a split-site model. This allows scholars to conduct research between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna and designated partner universities in the UK.

The agency noted that the scholarship process is highly competitive and strictly merit-based. It said selection will depend on academic performance, relevance of proposed research, professional affiliations, and alignment with national oil and gas development priorities.

Applications are to be completed online, and the deadline for submission is February 27, 2026.
