Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a comprehensive welfare package for the surviving husband and father of a family killed in a brutal attack in the Dorayi area of the state.
The governor announced the intervention during a condolence visit to the family on Tuesday, following the murder of a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children at their residence in the Chiranci Dorayi community.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, January 17, and involved the killing of the woman and her children, aged between one and 17 years, in an attack that shocked residents and sparked widespread outrage across the state.
Governor Yusuf described the killings as heartbreaking and assured the bereaved father that the state government would fully support him through the difficult period.
According to the governor, the approved welfare package includes sponsorship for Hajj and Umrah, provision of a new and secure home, and full government welfare support to aid rehabilitation and long-term recovery.
He said the state would also provide all necessary assistance to help the man rebuild his life, including support for remarriage if he so chooses.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice, directing the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to fast-track the prosecution of suspects already arrested in connection with the killings.
He pledged that the government would ensure swift and decisive justice, stating that he would personally approve death warrants for any individuals convicted in the case and similar grave crimes.
The governor stressed that the state would not tolerate acts of violence that threaten communal safety and family life.
In an emotional response, the bereaved father reportedly donated his personal house to the Kano State Government for the construction of an Islamiyya school to serve children in the community.
The incident has renewed concerns over domestic and family-related violence in the state, prompting renewed calls for vigilance and improved community security.
Governor Yusuf’s intervention has drawn commendation from residents, who described the gesture as a show of compassion and responsible leadership in the face of profound loss.
