The Airport Police Command in Lagos has arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Precious Onudhona, over an alleged romance scam involving N48.5 million.

The suspect, who hails from Delta State, was apprehended on February 2, 2026, while trying to board a flight from Lagos to Asaba. The police said the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the command.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Airport Police Command, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said operatives of the Anti-Fraud Unit carried out the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to protect the aviation environment from criminal activities.

Adeola disclosed that the suspect is linked to a large-scale fraud valued at N48.5 million, approximately $35,000.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that Onudhona joined a fraud syndicate in 2023 that specialized in romance-related scams carried out through social media platforms.

He explained that the group targeted unsuspecting victims on Facebook and Instagram using fake identities and carefully crafted stories to gain trust and extort money.

The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly posed as “Travis Kevin,” claiming to be a white American medical doctor, to deceive victims.

Adeola added that the suspect created a fake banking platform that displayed false account balances, which he used to convince victims to send money under the promise of quick repayment.

He noted that the suspect claimed the funds were needed for feeding and medical supplies after pretending to have sustained injuries while on duty. Payments were allegedly made through cryptocurrency channels.

Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a full-scale investigation into the case.

Adeola quoted the commissioner as directing that all members of the syndicate be identified and brought to justice, stressing that airports remain sensitive facilities that must not be used for criminal operations.

The arrest comes shortly after the command apprehended another suspected internet fraudster linked to a separate case involving foreign victims and substantial financial losses.
