The United Nations, the United States, and Türkiye have strongly condemned the violent attack in Kwara State that resulted in the deaths of at least 75 people, describing the incident as brutal and unacceptable.

In separate reactions, the international bodies expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Nigerian government and citizens affected by the violence.

United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, described the assault as a terrorist act and said the incident deeply saddened him. He expressed sympathy to grieving families and wished the injured a quick recovery.

The United States Mission in Nigeria also denounced the killings, calling the attack horrific and senseless. The US expressed concern over reports that several people remained unaccounted for and offered support to the affected communities. It welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s directive for increased security deployment and humanitarian assistance, urging Nigerian authorities to ensure those behind the crime are swiftly brought to justice.

Türkiye equally reacted with condemnation, stating that it was deeply troubled by the scale of the violence. The Turkish government pledged continued cooperation with Nigeria in counter-terrorism efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s security operations.

The attack reportedly targeted Woro and nearby Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area. Armed assailants stormed the settlements, killing residents, destroying homes and shops, and setting fire to the palace of a traditional ruler. The violence forced many villagers to flee their homes in search of safety.

Although official figures confirmed that at least 75 people lost their lives, local accounts suggested that the death toll could be higher due to the scale of destruction.

In response, the Inspector-General of Police ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special forces to the affected areas. The police condemned the killings and confirmed that coordinated manhunt operations were underway to track down the attackers.
