Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has immortalised veteran journalist and author Dan Agbese by officially renaming the Benue Printing and Publishing Corporation after him.

The decision, announced through an executive order, changes the institution’s name to the Dan Agbese Printing and Publishing Corporation, a move the state government described as a tribute to preserve the legacy of the late media icon and promote principled journalism.

According to the governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, the renaming formalises an earlier pledge made during Benue State’s Golden Jubilee celebration to honour Agbese’s lifelong contributions to journalism and public discourse.

The directive takes immediate effect and applies to all official documents, signage, branding materials, and public references, with ministries and agencies instructed to ensure full compliance across the state.

Government officials noted that the gesture is aimed at institutionalising excellence in communication, preserving Agbese’s legacy, and inspiring future generations of journalists, writers, and public servants to uphold truth, courage, and professionalism.

Dan Agbese, a native of Benue and co-founder of Newswatch magazine, was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential journalists, known for his fearless commentary, investigative depth, and intellectual contributions to national debate before his death in November 2025 at the age of 81.
