Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has accused the Federal Government of allegedly allocating massive intervention funds exclusively to states governed by the ruling All Progressives Congress, claiming that opposition-led states are being deliberately sidelined.
Speaking during an interview on DW Radio Hausa, the governor alleged that some states controlled by APC governors had received up to ₦500 billion each as federal intervention support, while Zamfara State has not received any such funding since he assumed office in 2023.
Lawal, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, said the exclusion was politically motivated, stressing that his state has been denied federal intervention funds because of its opposition status.
According to him, Zamfara has not benefited from any special financial assistance apart from statutory monthly allocations, despite facing serious developmental and security challenges. He stated that while other states allegedly enjoyed extensive federal support, Zamfara had been left out entirely.
The governor added that despite the absence of intervention funding, his administration has continued to execute projects across the state, relying strictly on constitutionally allocated revenues and internal management strategies.
Lawal further revealed that his government has not taken any fresh loans since coming into office, noting that Zamfara is still servicing heavy debts inherited from the previous administration. He disclosed that about ₦1.2 billion is deducted monthly from the state’s allocation to service existing liabilities.
On speculation about possible defection from the PDP, the governor dismissed such plans, insisting that political loyalty and principle must not be sacrificed due to internal party disagreements.
He maintained that only God determines political power and leadership, adding that he remains committed to resolving internal challenges within the PDP rather than abandoning the party.
Lawal also stressed that any future political decision would be taken collectively after wide consultations with his supporters and political stakeholders, stating that he would only consider alternatives if the PDP crisis becomes irredeemable.
