Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called for a full judicial examination of the allegations surrounding former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, insisting that the issues should not be treated as mere political disagreements.

Speaking on Tuesday during Channels Television’s Political Paradigm programme, Baba-Ahmed said the gravity of the accusations demands legal clarity rather than political debate.

According to him, all claims ranging from alleged corruption to accusations involving the Office of the National Security Adviser must be formally presented before the courts to determine their truth.

He explained that sweeping such serious matters under political arguments would be harmful to Nigeria’s democratic and judicial systems. He stressed that public confidence could only be restored when legal institutions thoroughly examine the claims.

Baba-Ahmed also expressed concern over the growing conflict between El-Rufai and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, describing their falling-out as deeply troubling given their long-standing personal and professional relationship.

He said the breakdown of their alliance reflects a dangerous political culture capable of destroying even the strongest bonds. He added that the public nature of the dispute could negatively affect national stability and governance.

The former presidential aide urged restraint, advising El-Rufai to focus on clearing his name rather than escalating the confrontation. He said resolving legal allegations should take priority over political battles.

The crisis follows claims by El-Rufai that Ribadu ordered his arrest at Abuja airport and interfered with investigations against him. El-Rufai also alleged the procurement of toxic chemicals by security authorities, calling for public accountability.

Ribadu has denied all accusations, maintaining that he harbours no presidential ambition and that anti-corruption agencies operate independently without political influence.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government, through the Department of State Services, has filed a three-count cybercrime charge against El-Rufai at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The former governor recently honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as investigations into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure continue.
