Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, as the new Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The appointment was confirmed in an official statement released on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, the governor approved the appointment as part of his broader plan to improve communication between the state government and residents, while also boosting public participation in governance.
The government described Johnson-Okojie as a respected actress, producer, entrepreneur, and humanitarian whose career has spanned nearly two decades, featuring in over 200 movies.
It added that through her foundation, the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, she has remained actively involved in initiatives focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach.
The statement noted that her strong public presence, grassroots influence, and wide appeal across age groups are expected to enhance awareness of government policies and programmes across Edo State.
Officials also expressed confidence that her appointment would strengthen public trust and encourage greater civic engagement.
Mercy Johnson-Okojie is married to Odianosen Okojie, who currently represents Esan North East and South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
