Tension heightened across the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday as the Obidient Movement raised serious concerns over an alleged malfunction of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Results Viewing Portal, known as IREV, during the ongoing area council elections.

The group claimed that results transmitted from several polling units were not reflecting on the IREV server, sparking anxiety among voters, observers, and political stakeholders monitoring the exercise.

The elections, taking place across the six area councils of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali, are widely regarded as a critical test of grassroots political strength in Nigeria’s capital.

In a statement titled “Alert from the Obidient Movement Headquarters,” the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko, urged supporters and Nigerians to remain vigilant throughout the collation process.

He disclosed that information reaching the movement suggested that while the IREV server appeared active, uploaded results from multiple polling units were not visible on the platform.

According to him, the development raises concerns about transparency and could undermine public confidence in the credibility of the electoral process if not urgently addressed.

Tanko encouraged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and observant, stressing the need to closely monitor collation activities at designated centres, including the Area 10 INEC office and Karu.

He also advised voters to ensure they retain accurate results from their polling units to enable proper verification and accountability, adding that peaceful participation remains essential to safeguarding democracy.

IREV was introduced by INEC to promote transparency by allowing real-time public access to polling unit results uploaded directly from the field. The system played a prominent role in previous elections and has been widely regarded as a major technological innovation aimed at improving electoral credibility.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC had yet to issue an official response to the concerns raised by the Obidient Movement regarding the alleged technical malfunction.

The silence from the electoral umpire has further intensified public attention on the outcome of the polls, with many Nigerians closely monitoring developments as collation continues across the FCT.
