The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored David Mark as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the Supreme Court judgment on the party’s leadership dispute.
A review of INEC’s updated records also confirmed the reinstatement of former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary of the party.
Other officials returned to the party’s National Working Committee include Mani Ahmad as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
INEC had earlier removed the names of the officials from its portal after a Court of Appeal ruling ordered the maintenance of the status quo in the leadership tussle rocking the party.
However, the Supreme Court on Thursday overturned the appellate court’s decision, ruling that the order could no longer stand after the relevant proceedings had been concluded.
The apex court also directed the Federal High Court to proceed with the substantive suit challenging the legitimacy of the ADC leadership and determine the matter on its merits.
Reacting to the development, the Mark-led faction described the reinstatement as a victory for due process and internal democracy within the party.
Despite the latest ruling, the main case over the party’s leadership remains pending before the Federal High Court.
