Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made a bold selection decision by dropping star striker Victor Osimhen and first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from Nigeria’s squad for upcoming international friendlies.
The Super Eagles will face Iran on March 27 and Jordan on March 31, with both matches set to be played in Antalya, Turkey.
The exclusion of Osimhen and Nwabali headlines a major shake-up in the 23-man squad, as Chelle looks to test new players and reshape the team ahead of future competitions.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi returns to lead the squad, alongside key midfielders Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka.
In attack, Ademola Lookman is expected to step up as the leading forward, supported by Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, and Paul Onuachu.
The squad also includes fresh faces such as Philip Otele and Collins Yira Sor, who earned call-ups following impressive performances at club level.
In goal, Maduka Okoye returns to compete for the starting spot, alongside Adeleye Adebayo and Francis Uzoho.
Defensively, the coach has retained experienced names like Semi Ajayi while also handing a debut call-up to Emmanuel Fernandez.
The matches were initially scheduled to take place in Jordan but were moved to Turkey due to rising tensions in the Middle East.
Chelle’s latest squad reflects a strategic shift, blending experience with new talent as the team prepares for upcoming international challenges.
