Governors from northern Nigeria have reiterated their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging stronger collaboration to tackle insecurity and accelerate development across the region.
Under the platform of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), the leaders made this commitment during a strategic meeting held in Abuja.
The session was chaired by Inuwa Yahaya, who also endorsed the communiqué issued after the discussions.
The governors acknowledged ongoing joint efforts between state governments and federal security agencies, noting that coordinated actions are beginning to yield measurable improvements in addressing security challenges.
They emphasized the need for sustained national support, urging citizens to cooperate with the armed forces and other security institutions in restoring stability.
Beyond security, the forum highlighted plans to strengthen institutional capacity within its structure. This includes the digitisation of its secretariat to enhance operational efficiency and policy coordination.
On economic development, the governors resolved to engage experts to identify new revenue streams and improve internally generated revenue across northern states.
They also expressed support for ongoing federal initiatives, including collaboration with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to advance projects like the proposed New Nigeria Energy Company.
Despite these efforts, insecurity remains a major concern in the region, with recurring incidents of banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks continuing to affect communities.
Recent attacks in parts of Kaduna and Plateau states have further underscored the urgency for comprehensive security reforms and stronger preventive strategies.
The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the federal government to confront these challenges, stressing that lasting peace requires coordinated action at all levels.
