At least three people have been killed in a fresh attack in Plateau State, barely 48 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with victims of earlier violence in Jos and assured residents of improved security.

The latest incident occurred on Friday night in Nyango Gyel community, located in Jos South Local Government Area, where armed men reportedly invaded the area and opened fire before fleeing. The attack was reported by Daily Trust and cited by local sources.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation were inconclusive as the Police Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Command, Alfred Alabo, said he was in a meeting when contacted and did not respond further as of press time.

The killings come shortly after President Tinubu’s visit to Plateau, where he met grieving families of victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack at Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos. During the visit, the president expressed sympathy and assured affected communities that such incidents would not recur. “To the victims, there is nothing I can give you… but I can console you and promise that this experience will not repeat itself,” he said.

Reacting to the latest violence, the Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the attack, describing it as senseless and targeted at innocent residents. He called on security agencies to act swiftly in apprehending those responsible and preventing further attacks.

Tengwong also urged residents of vulnerable areas, including Jos South, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi local government areas, to remain vigilant amid renewed security concerns.

The fresh attack underscores ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, where repeated incidents of violence have continued to raise concerns despite government assurances and recent high-level interventions.
