Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the recent surge in violent attacks across the country, describing the situation as a serious failure of leadership.
In a statement released on Monday, Obi questioned the effectiveness of the President’s earlier assurance to residents of Plateau State, where he had pledged improved security following a deadly attack.
The former Anambra governor pointed out that within a short period after the promise was made, another incident occurred in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, leading to fresh casualties.
He further highlighted a series of violent incidents reported in other parts of the country, including killings in Nasarawa State, mass abductions in Zamfara State, and attacks in Borno State.
Obi also referenced recent violence in Benue State and Kaduna State, where several lives were lost and many others displaced during attacks on communities and places of worship.
According to him, the repeated incidents raise serious concerns about the country’s security framework and the ability of authorities to protect citizens.
He stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains the primary duty of any government, warning that the continued loss of lives across multiple states signals a deepening national crisis.
Obi urged authorities to take more decisive actions to address the situation, noting that Nigerians are increasingly vulnerable even in places they should feel safe.
The remarks come amid growing public concern over rising insecurity in different regions of the country, with calls for stronger and more coordinated security responses.
