The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has removed 23 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres from its approved list ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), following a performance review of the recent mock exercise.

In addition to the delisted centres, the examination body issued warnings to 89 others for failing to meet required operational and technical standards, while one centre was permanently banned from participating in any future JAMB examinations.

JAMB explained that the mock UTME serves not only as a preparatory test for candidates but also as a quality control mechanism to assess the readiness and compliance of CBT centres nationwide.

According to the board’s spokesperson, the decision was necessary to maintain the credibility and smooth conduct of the main examination. Only centres that meet strict technical and operational benchmarks will be allowed to participate in the 2026 UTME.

The affected centres are spread across several states, including Lagos, Oyo, Delta, Edo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, among others.

The board emphasized that centres flagged during the mock exercise exhibited issues ranging from poor technical infrastructure to inadequate service delivery, which could compromise the examination process if left unchecked.

Meanwhile, the 89 centres placed on notice are expected to upgrade their facilities and address identified shortcomings before the main examination begins. Failure to comply may result in further sanctions.

JAMB reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on inefficiency and malpractice, stressing that ensuring a transparent and seamless examination process remains a top priority.
