President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh appointments in Nigeria’s education sector.
The new changes affect NECO, NBTE, the National Library of Nigeria and the Federal Polytechnic in Shendam, Plateau State.
One of the key appointments is Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu.
She has been named chairman of the governing board of the National Examinations Council, also known as NECO.
The president also retained Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as registrar of the examination body.
Adelabu is a retired professor with years of experience in education management.
She once served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State.
She also previously led the National Board for Technical Education.
Tinubu also appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as chairman of NBTE.
Salako is respected for his work in research and higher education.
He earlier served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.
During his time there, the institute recorded reforms and stronger partnerships.
At the Federal Polytechnic in Shendam, Engineer Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed rector.
He takes over after the end of the former rector’s tenure.
Before now, Binfa worked in academic leadership and engineering education.
The president also renewed the appointment of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria.
She will serve another final term.
Anunobi first took office in 2021.
Since then, she has introduced reforms aimed at modernising the National Library.
Her efforts include digital projects and progress on the headquarters building in Abuja.
Government officials said her reappointment would help maintain continuity.
They added that it would support the completion of ongoing projects.
These appointments are part of efforts to strengthen institutions under the Ministry of Education.
They are also expected to improve leadership and service delivery.
Observers believe the new changes may help examination management, technical education and library development across the country.
