Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has announced his decision to leave the party and join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Datti made the declaration during a television interview on Tuesday, saying the Labour Party no longer represents the values it once stood for.

According to him, the PRP offers a stronger political history and a clearer direction for Nigeria’s future.

The former vice-presidential candidate blamed the ongoing internal crisis within the Labour Party for his decision to move on.

He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of fueling instability in opposition parties rather than focusing on governance, insecurity and the economy.

Datti said many politicians are now searching for new platforms because several opposition structures have been weakened by prolonged internal battles.

His planned exit comes months after Peter Obi also left the Labour Party to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a wider opposition coalition.

The latest development is expected to further reshape opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
