Former Ashley Young has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 23-year career.
The versatile player, who began his journey at Watford FC, went on to feature for top clubs including Aston Villa FC, Manchester United FC, Inter Milan, Everton FC, and Ipswich Town FC.
Young made the announcement ahead of what could be his final appearance for Ipswich, where he signed a short-term deal in 2025.
Reflecting on his journey, the former England international described his career as a dream fulfilled, tracing his path across several iconic stadiums and clubs.
During his time at Manchester United FC, Young enjoyed major success, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and League Cup. He later moved to Inter Milan, where he secured the Serie A title.
On the international stage, Young earned 39 caps for England, scoring seven goals and representing the country at major tournaments, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where the team reached the semi-finals.
Speaking on his decision, he noted that physical demands and age played a role but expressed satisfaction at ending his career on his own terms.
Despite announcing his retirement, Young stated that his immediate focus remains helping Ipswich Town push for promotion before officially stepping away from the game.
