President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.
Aina will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second tenure as registrar officially ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday.
According to the Presidency, Aina is a respected academic and technology expert with strong experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector reforms.
The statement noted that Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom.
He also earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, alongside a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Aina is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The Presidency said his relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service period, where he gained early experience in the nation’s admission and examination system.
The statement added that his exposure during that period helped shape his contributions to digital reforms and examination process improvements in Nigeria.
With more than 15 years of professional experience, Aina has reportedly worked on several projects involving technology, educational systems and institutional reforms.
He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council, NECO, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, and various state ministries of education.
His areas of expertise include ICT systems, examination security, digital transition and operational efficiency.
The Presidency described Aina as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering, adding that he would also become the youngest person ever appointed as JAMB Registrar.
He is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, IET.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the examination body.
Professor Oloyede was appointed JAMB Registrar in 2016 and previously served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin.
