Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election in Benue State after winning the party’s primary election conducted across the state on Thursday.
The chairman of the Benue APC Governorship Election Committee, Professor Muhammed Isah, announced the result in Makurdi, declaring Alia winner of the primary and confirming him as the party’s flagbearer for the next governorship poll.
The announcement was greeted with cheers from party supporters and delegates at the venue of the exercise.
Speaking shortly after the declaration, Governor Alia expressed appreciation to party delegates and the APC leadership for their support during the primary process. He described his victory as a win for democracy and the people of Benue State.
According to the governor, his administration would continue to build on achievements already recorded in critical sectors including security, agriculture, road infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
“This victory is for the people of Benue. We will build on the foundation we have laid in security, agriculture, roads, education, and healthcare,” Alia said.
The governor also appealed to other aspirants who participated in the contest to unite with him in preparation for the 2027 governorship election, stressing the need for cohesion within the party.
“I appeal to all who contested to join hands with us. Only together can we deliver for Benue,” he added.
With the completion of the APC governorship primary, the party is expected to begin reconciliation efforts and mobilization activities ahead of the 2027 election in the state.
