The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche, has expressed deep concern over the attempted vandalisation of a community transformer in Igumale, describing the incident as a direct attack on public infrastructure and the collective wellbeing of the people of Ado Local Government Area.
The Chairman made the statement following the arrest of three suspected transformer vandals by the Igumale Vigilante Group, led by the Youth Leader and Indigenous Security Head of Igumale, Comrade Jonathan Oche Ifere, with the support of members of the community security team.
According to information available to the Council, the suspects were apprehended while allegedly attempting to steal armoured cables from a community transformer in Igumale. Their actions, if successful, would have thrown parts of the community into darkness, disrupted economic activities, and undermined the efforts of the government and the people to improve access to electricity.
The suspects have been identified as Agbo Samuel, Adai Obande, popularly known as Awaje, from Elikizi, and Benjamin Otsepa, also known as Chimaroke, all residents of Ado Local Government Area. Preliminary reports also suggest that the suspects may be connected to other acts of vandalism involving public electricity installations and railway infrastructure within the local government. These allegations remain subject to investigation by the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche commended the vigilance, courage, and swift response of the Igumale Vigilante Group and the youths of the community for preventing what could have resulted in significant damage to public property. He described their actions as a clear demonstration of the critical role community participation plays in complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies.
The Chairman reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening local security architecture through continuous collaboration with security agencies, vigilante groups, traditional institutions, and community leaders. He also appreciated the confidence reposed in his administration by members of the community and reaffirmed his resolve to continue supporting initiatives that promote the safety of lives and property across Ado Local Government Area.
Hon. Sunny Oche further warned individuals involved in criminal activities to immediately desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law. He stressed that vandalism of public infrastructure is an offence against the entire community and will not be tolerated under his administration.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, emphasising that effective security is a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of all citizens.
The Chairman also expressed confidence that the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
