A civic group, The Nigeria People’s Project (PPP), has raised the alarm over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, particularly the escalating clashes between herders and farmers. The group warns that the future of the younger generation is at stake if urgent action isn’t taken to restore peace and stability.

In a statement released on Sunday by Chairman Lateef Gbenga Ganiyu and Secretary James Jibrin, the PPP expressed deep concern over the continued loss of lives, farmlands, and economic resources due to persistent insecurity. “Farmers are losing their ancestral lands, while urban dwellers are constantly at risk of attacks by bandits and kidnappers,” the statement read.

Despite these challenges, the PPP acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly praising his fair and strategic appointments in the security sector. They commended the Chief of Defence Staff for his “boldness and relentless fight against terrorists,” which they believe is making a difference in tackling insecurity.

Calling for national unity, the group urged security forces to intensify their operations ahead of the rainy season, ensuring farmers can return to their fields without fear. “The security agencies must work sincerely so that this coming farming season, farmers can go back to their lands without the threat of bandits or other criminal elements,” they emphasized.

Concluding with a message of hope, the group reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a safer Nigeria. “We remain dedicated to supporting every initiative that fosters peace, security, and stability across the nation.”
