England’s new manager, Thomas Tuchel, had a royal welcome on Tuesday as he met Prince William at Windsor Castle. The meeting marked the first official engagement between the German coach and the Prince of Wales, who is a passionate supporter of English football.

Prince William, who took over as the FA’s patron last year, was eager to hear Tuchel’s vision for the national team as he prepares for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifying campaign in March.

Kensington Palace shared a photo of the duo shaking hands, with the caption: “Great to meet with new England men’s manager Thomas Tuchel today, and hear about plans for the team.”

Tuchel, who officially started his role on January 1, follows in the footsteps of Gareth Southgate and aims to lead England to their first major trophy since 1966. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss will announce his first England squad next month, with qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley on the horizon.
