Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to introduce a high-priced “Gold Card” visa, allowing wealthy individuals to secure U.S. residency for a hefty $5 million fee.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump pitched the initiative as a way to attract job creators and help reduce the national deficit. “We’re going to be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card,” he declared.
Trump estimates that up to a million of these visas could be sold, generating billions in revenue. He also suggested that the program would be open to wealthy Russians, including oligarchs hit by Western sanctions. “I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people. I think they can afford $5 million,” he remarked.
While the controversial plan has sparked debate, Trump hinted that the visa could even carry his brand. “Somebody said, ‘Can we call it the Trump Gold Card?’ I said, ‘If it helps, use the name Trump,’” he quipped.
The proposal, set to roll out in two weeks, comes as Trump continues to negotiate with Russia over the ongoing Ukraine conflict, raising concerns about his stance on global diplomacy.
