The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared today, Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH, marking the beginning of the holy month for Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

The announcement came after the crescent moon was sighted on Friday, February 28, signifying the end of Shaban. In a video message, the Sultan confirmed that multiple reports of moon sightings from different regions were verified by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), leading to the declaration.

He urged Muslims to dedicate themselves to prayers, spiritual reflection, and seeking Allah’s blessings for both personal and national prosperity.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the commencement of Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of peace, unity, and devotion during this sacred period.

“Ramadan is a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of compassion. Let us use this period to strengthen our bonds with Allah and one another, fostering unity and peace in our communities,” Tinubu stated.

The President also highlighted his administration’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s economy and food security, pointing to signs of progress such as stabilizing exchange rates, declining fuel prices, and a reduction in food costs. As the wet season approaches, he reassured Nigerians of continued efforts to enhance agricultural productivity.

Tinubu called on all citizens to pray for the nation’s growth and stability, urging them to let their actions reflect a shared commitment to progress.

“May this holy month bring spiritual renewal, joy, and peace to all. Let us emerge from Ramadan stronger, united, and more determined to build a prosperous Nigeria,” he concluded.
