Israel’s newly appointed military chief, Eyal Zamir, has declared that the mission to defeat Hamas is still far from complete, as tensions in Gaza remain high despite ongoing ceasefire negotiations.

Speaking at his inauguration ceremony in Tel Aviv, Zamir made it clear that Hamas, though severely weakened, has not yet been eliminated. “The mission is not yet accomplished,” he stated, reinforcing Israel’s determination to secure a decisive victory following the October 7, 2023 attack.

His comments align with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance, as he vowed to push forward with military efforts despite mounting international pressure for a political resolution.

Meanwhile, Arab leaders have endorsed a $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza under the Palestinian Authority’s administration, presenting an alternative to the controversial proposal from former U.S. President Donald Trump, which suggested a complete takeover of the region. However, Israel remains opposed to any PA involvement in Gaza, making the future of the territory uncertain.

The ongoing war, which has claimed over 48,000 lives in Gaza and left the region in ruins, continues to fuel humanitarian concerns. Ceasefire negotiations remain at an impasse, with Hamas demanding a permanent end to hostilities, while Israel insists on further military action.

With 58 Israeli hostages still in Gaza, including 34 confirmed dead, pressure is mounting on Netanyahu to secure their release. Families of the hostages have been urging the government to finalize a deal, fearing time is running out.
