The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has hailed the Federal Government’s tax reform as a positive development for Nigerians, saying it will bring much-needed structure and efficiency to the nation’s tax system.

Speaking to journalists in Jos on Friday, CITN President, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, emphasized that the proposed tax bill, if passed into law, would improve revenue generation without imposing unnecessary tax burdens on citizens.

“As an institute, we are pleased with the ongoing dialogue on the new tax bills. If passed into law, they will enhance the efficiency of tax administration in Nigeria,” Agbeluyi stated.

He assured Nigerians that the reform is not about increasing taxes but about ensuring fairness and clarity in taxation. While acknowledging that no policy is perfect, he encouraged citizens to support the initiative, noting that necessary amendments could be made as needed.

The CITN president made these remarks during the institute’s first council meeting of 2025 in Jos, where members gathered to discuss critical issues affecting the country’s tax system.
