A US-based Nigerian investor, Mrs. Onyinye Urum Ukaegbu Ibe, has raised the alarm over alleged threats to destroy her multi-million naira piggery and cassava farm in Abiriba, Abia State. She has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, seeking urgent intervention to prevent an attack on her investment.

According to the petition, the threats emerged following the death of one of her employees, Joseph Urum, who fell ill while at work and later passed away after surgery. However, rumors spread within the community suggesting foul play, leading to tensions and calls for vengeance against the farm.

Speaking from her US base, Mrs. Ibe dismissed the allegations as baseless fabrications designed to destroy her business. She expressed shock at claims that she had attempted to “harvest” the deceased’s kidney for her son, labeling it an absurd falsehood meant to stir violence against her.

She called for an autopsy to determine the true cause of death and urged authorities to ensure justice prevails.

Community and Police Intervene

The traditional ruler of Abiriba, HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu (Enachoken Abiriba), confirmed that the matter had been reported to the police and was now under investigation. While acknowledging the community’s anger, he urged restraint, stating that the farm had been secured to prevent further escalation.

“We ensured that the place was protected because some people were angry and wanted to burn it down. But we said no—let the police do their job,” the monarch stated.

Meanwhile, attempts to get an official response from the Abia State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

With tensions running high, all eyes are now on law enforcement to ensure a fair and transparent investigation, preventing what could be a devastating loss for the investor and the local community.
