As the Social Democratic Party (SDP) experiences a wave of high-profile defections, its 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has boldly declared his intention to lead the party’s charge in the 2027 election.

Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Friday, March 14, 2025, Adebayo dismissed concerns that heavyweight politicians joining the SDP could sideline him. His statement comes amid the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who has been actively wooing political allies to the party.

“I’m not worried at all,” Adebayo asserted. “Everyone coming into the party knows I will run in 2027. If you’re afraid of competition in your own party, you have no business being president.”

He also made a bold prediction: “Tinubu is going to be removed from power, that one is sure, and there will be an SDP president.”
