The ongoing tussle for the Kano Emirship has taken a dramatic turn as Aminu Babba Dan’Agundi, a senior counsel to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has issued a strong warning to Muhammadu Sanusi II. Dan’Agundi has threatened legal action against Sanusi for contempt of court if he continues to present himself as the Emir of Kano.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Dan’Agundi, who also holds the traditional title of Sarkin Dawaki Babba, emphasized that the recent Court of Appeal ruling ordered all parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum—meaning that the Emirship positions remain as they were before the legal disputes began.

He argued that based on this ruling, Bayero and four other Emirs legally remain in power, dismissing any claims to the throne by Sanusi.

“If Sanusi continues to parade himself as the Emir, it will amount to contempt of court,” Dan’Agundi declared. “The law must be respected, and if he defies the order, I will not hesitate to take legal action against him.”

He called on security agencies to ensure strict adherence to the court’s directive, stressing that only a Supreme Court ruling could overturn the decision.

This latest development adds another layer of tension to the long-running battle for the Kano throne, with both sides refusing to back down. The question remains: Who truly holds the Emirship title, and how will this power struggle end?
