Tension has gripped Ondo State as farmers took to the streets in a furious protest following the brutal killing of five more farmers by suspected armed herdsmen in Aba Oyinbo, Akure North Local Government Area.

Angry and grieving, the protesters stormed the governor’s office in Akure, displaying the bodies of the victims and demanding immediate action. Their demonstration brought activities at the government office to a standstill for hours.

This marks the second major protest in recent weeks over escalating violence in the region. Just last week, twenty farmers were reportedly slaughtered in the same council area after armed assailants raided four communities, leaving destruction in their wake.

The protesters, frustrated by the increasing kidnappings and unchecked violence, accused security agencies of failing to protect them.

“We are being slaughtered like animals while the government watches,” one protester lamented. “How long do we have to live in fear before action is taken?”

Vanguard sources confirmed that the latest attack happened in the early hours of Wednesday. Meanwhile, some enraged farmers have also barricaded the Akure-Owo highway, further escalating tensions as they demand justice and security guarantees.

With growing insecurity and no clear intervention from authorities, residents fear that the situation could spiral out of control if urgent steps are not taken.
