Liverpool’s star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, has been forced to cut short his international duty with Brazil after suffering a suspected concussion during their 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over Colombia.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper collided with defender Davinson Sánchez in the 78th minute, prompting his immediate substitution under FIFA’s concussion protocol. As a result, Alisson will miss Brazil’s much-anticipated clash against Argentina and has returned to Liverpool to continue his recovery.
A statement from the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) reassured fans, stating, “Alisson, who suffered a head knock, is fine and has no medical complaints. However, he must follow FIFA’s concussion protocol and return to his club.”
This latest setback adds to Liverpool’s growing injury concerns, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, and Conor Bradley already sidelined. Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch also withdrew from the Netherlands squad due to fitness issues.
Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League by 12 points, will hope to have Alisson fit in time for their Merseyside derby against Everton on April 2.
