A chilling wave of insecurity has struck Abuja again as armed kidnappers abducted a Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant Cynthia Akor, along with two others in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The officer, who is attached to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), was reportedly taken on Friday night from her residence, with sources confirming that the abductors have already reached out to demand a staggering ₦100 million ransom.
“Among the three people kidnapped on Friday night in Mpape is a DHQ official, Lt. Cynthia Akor. The kidnappers have contacted their families and are demanding ₦100 million for their release,” a source revealed.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the FCT Police Command has remained silent, offering no official statement on the incident. However, insiders suggest that security agencies—including the Police, Navy, and Defence Headquarters—have launched a joint manhunt for the kidnappers and an urgent search-and-rescue operation.
Meanwhile, senior military officials, including the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, have yet to make any public comments on the abduction.
The incident further raises concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Abuja, particularly in Mpape, which has seen a worrying spike in kidnappings in recent months.
