Troops Nab Two Over Brutal Killing of Catholic Priest in Kaduna

In a major breakthrough, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested two suspects linked to the abduction and murder of Rev. Fr. Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Okechukwu was kidnapped from his residence in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area, on the night of March 4. Less than 24 hours later, his lifeless body was discovered, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to a statement released by OPSH media officer Maj. Samson Zhakom on Wednesday in Jos, the arrests followed a carefully planned military raid in the Warsa-Piti community of Lere Local Government Area.

Shocking Confession Leads to Arrest

The key suspect, a 33-year-old man, allegedly confessed during interrogation that he had been hired to kidnap the priest by another individual—shockingly, someone who lived in the same house as the slain cleric.

Following this revelation, troops swiftly carried out a follow-up operation in Agwan Sarki, Tachira, Kaura LGA, leading to the arrest of the alleged mastermind behind the crime.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have confirmed that both suspects are now in custody and undergoing further questioning as security forces work tirelessly to track down other accomplices involved in the murder.

The tragic killing of Rev. Fr. Okechukwu has sparked outrage, with many calling for swift justice. Security operatives have assured the public that they remain committed to bringing all those responsible to book.
