Political commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has reignited controversy with a bold declaration—he took a personal vow to dismantle the Obidient movement.

Speaking on Breakfast Central on Thursday, March 27, 2025, Omokri dismissed claims that his opposition to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, stemmed from personal grievances. Instead, he blamed Obi’s supporters for launching relentless attacks on him and his family, saying their conduct fueled his mission.

“I took a vow to destroy that movement because Peter Obi was a project of mine,” Omokri stated.

Revealing his past political influence, he claimed that he and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce were instrumental in Obi’s selection as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 election.

“I was responsible for Peter Obi becoming the running mate to Waziri Atiku Abubakar in 2019. I’ve said this publicly. I’ve got the documents. I’m a meticulous record keeper,” he asserted.

Although Obi later switched from the PDP to the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 elections, Omokri insisted that he had no issue with the defection. His problem, he stressed, was the behavior of Obi’s supporters.

According to him, he reached out to Obi personally, urging him to call out those threatening him and his family. However, the former Anambra governor allegedly refused to intervene.
