Yolanda Saldívar, the woman who shattered the Tejano music world by murdering Selena Quintanilla-Perez in 1995, has been denied parole after serving 30 years in prison.
A Texas parole board rejected Saldívar’s request on Thursday, citing concerns over public safety. She will have another chance to apply in March 2030.
Saldívar, once a trusted figure in Selena’s inner circle as the founder of her fan club and boutique manager, betrayed the rising star when she shot her in a Corpus Christi hotel on March 31, 1995. The murder came after allegations that Saldívar had been embezzling money from Selena’s businesses.
Selena, often referred to as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” left behind a powerful legacy. She won a Grammy in the early 1990s, and her posthumous album Dreaming of You became a massive success. Her life was later immortalized in the 1997 biopic Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez.
Despite Saldívar’s plea for freedom, justice for Selena remains firm—her killer stays behind bars.
